Park Cakes’ approach to Health, Safety and the Environment

Park Cakes Ltd aims to conduct its operations in a manner which support health, safety and environment considerations alongside the commercial, financial and quality objectives of the company.

We have four key objectives:

  • To strive towards a zero accident environment
  • To minimise the environmental impact of our operations, our supply chain and our products
  • To provide a healthy workplace
  • To meet all applicable legislative and other requirements

To achieve these objectives Park Cakes Ltd will:

  • Provide and maintain safe systems of work by proactively monitoring and controlling hazards
  • Continuously improve practices in Health, Safety and Environment by making consistent, measurable progress towards injury prevention, the prevention of pollution and the pursuit of energy and resource efficiency
  • Pursue wherever possible recovery, reuse and recycling of resources
  • Integrate Health, Safety and Environment Management systems into all aspects of business decisions to minimise potential impacts of these decisions on Health, Safety and the Environment
  • Ensure that suitable human and financial resources are made available
  • Provide suitable and sufficient information, instruction and training to enable employees and contractors to carry out their roles safely and effectively
  • Continually assess Health, Safety and Environmental performance against defined objectives and targets
  • Work to understand and reduce the environmental impact outside of its direct factory operations such as those arising from product ingredients and customer use

Environmental Management

Our Oldham site has been certified to the ISO14001 environmental management standard since 2012 and in 2013 it became one of only a handful of food manufacturing sites to be awarded 'Gold Status' under Marks & Spencer's Plan A programme.

Our People

Recognising that the active co-operation of all personnel is essential to achieving excellence in Health, Safety and Environmental, Park Cakes Ltd employees and contractors will:

  • Follow safe working practices and procedures so that incidents to themselves, others and the environment are avoided
  • Demonstrate their personal commitment to Health, Safety and Environment by reporting hazardous conditions, practices or behaviours within the working environment
  • Participate in opportunities to improve the Health, Safety and Environmental performance

Natural Resources

Water consumption on the site has been reduced by more than 20% since 2010. Park Cakes has the ongoing target to reduce water consumption on the site year-on-year.

Waste Management

Waste from the site has reduced by more than 25% since 2007 and the site has sent zero waste to landfill from its operations since 2010.

Park Cakes has the ongoing target to reduce waste year-on-year and has a programme involving all bakery staff to reduce waste and increase recycling.
